'Doctor Who' season 10 spoilers: new cast member but Matt Smith isn't returning

There are rumors going around that Matt Smith will be back as the titular character in "Doctor Who," replacing Peter Capaldi, who is still expected to be back for "Doctor Who" season 10.

The reports are grounded on the comments of executive producer Steven Moffat about Smith's interest in reprising his role in the science fiction series as the Eleventh Doctor.

However, Digital Spy clarifies that Smith won't be returning in the "Doctor Who" universe anytime soon. After all, the quote dug up regarding Smith's interest to return is already a year old.

The publication believes that there's no way that "Doctor Who" folks are in talks with him right now to make a comeback. An official statement about his return has not been made yet as well.

Smith is currently very busy with the new Netflix series "The Crown," an Elizabeth II biopic where the "Doctor Who" alum stars as Prince Philip.

Back in April, Smith gushed about the first television series gig he ever did after "Doctor Who." He said that the writing for "The Crown" is " respectful but... it's honest about the human traits of these people."

"We as actors interpret that as honestly and as bravely as we can," he went on to say.

"The Crown" will make Smith very busy, making him unlikely to take the mantle of the Time Lord in "Doctor Who."

While Smith won't be appearing in the sci-fi series, "The Royle Family" star Ralf Little scored a guest star gig in "Doctor Who" season 10.

Details about the character he will play are being kept under wraps, but it is rumored that he will play the role of Guy Fawkes, a character he voiced in a "Doctor Who" game back in 2011.

Of course, it is only mere speculation. However, the fact that his character is being kept a secret could mean that fans are in for something big.

"Doctor Who" season 10 premieres some time next year.
