"Doctor Who" season 10 will no longer have Steven Moffat as showrunner, and this shakeup behind the scenes seems to have threatened the show's on-camera lineup as well, with lead star Peter Capaldi unsure of returning.

"I've been asked to stay on," Capaldi, who plays the role of the beloved Twelfth Doctor, told Radio Times. "But it's such a long time before I have to make that decision," the actor added.

Capaldi was referring to the break "Doctor Who" is taking. The show won't be airing its tenth season this year and will instead return in 2017.

"I don't know where the show's gonna go then. I don't know. I have to make up my mind, and I haven't yet," he added.

The actor has yet to decide if he will pass the torch or continue to fight through space and time in "Doctor Who" season 10. Capaldi admits that he loves working with the "wonderful" Moffat but thinks that new showrunner Chris Chibnall will be phenomenal as well.

While Capaldi's return as the Time Lord in "Doctor Who" season 10 is still up in the air, he has been dropping morsels of details about what the new season has in store.

According to the actor, who played the Twelfth Doctor since season 8, "Doctor Who" season 10 will be "action-packed" and will be "less emotional" and show more space exploration and excitement.

It will also feel different than the previous seasons and that there will be "new energy." As for the time and space brawls, the Time Lord will be confronted by a new alien threat that will ultimately take the hero "to the forefront of the cosmic battlefield."

Of course, the Twelfth Doctor is on the lookout for a new companion after actress Jenna Coleman's exit. While he admits that he will miss his co-star, Capaldi is also excited to meet someone new to work with.

"Doctor Who" season 19 will premiere sometime in 2017.
