The Twelfth Doctor has officially found a new companion in up-and-coming thespian Pearl Mackie, who will be accompanying the Time Lord in his adventures through space and time in "Doctor Who" season 10.

The British performer will play the role of Bill, who is replacing Jenna Coleman's Clara Oswald. BBC One released a preview of her in action as she runs around with Peter Capaldi's Twelfth Doctor shooting at him rounds of questions and quips as the killer Dalek closes in on them.

In an official statement, Mackie describes her character in "Doctor Who" season 10 as "fantastically written, cool, strong, sharp [and] a little bit vulnerable with a bit of geekiness thrown in."

As seen in the clip, Bill clearly has a lot to learn from the Doctor and has so much to learn about him too. And it looks like fans can expect laughs watching Bill take on the sidekick role in "Doctor Who" season 10, especially with the Daleks appearing to be a bigger threat in the new season.

Before Mackie scored the "Doctor Who" season 10 gig, she appeared in music videos and the BBC soap "Doctors." She also currently performs in the production of "The Curious Incident of the Dog in the Nighttime." Her performance there, which Capaldi happened to watch, sealed the deal for Mackie.

Mackie said she is "incredibly excited" to be part of "Doctor Who" season 10. "It's such an extraordinary British institution, I couldn't be prouder to call the TARDIS my home," the actress said, praising the "brilliant" Capaldi.

"Doctor Who" season 10 will be the last season that Steven Moffat will executive-produce. Chris Chibnall will take the torch from there, although it is unclear whether or not Capaldi will still be on board. Despite starring in the promo introducing Mackie, Capaldi's return is said to be up in the air.

"Doctor Who" season 10 is slated to premiere sometime next year.
