Prepare to die all over again as the original "Dark Souls" gets a remastered version. The game will be available on multiple platforms, including the PlayStation 4 (PS4), Xbox One, PC and the Nintendo Switch.

"Dark Souls" spawned an entirely new subgenre of action role-playing games (ARPG) characterized by brutally difficult gameplay and an engaging exploration component. It spawned several sequels since, but the Remastered version is proof that there is a market that longs for the original experience if only a bit modernized.

Enhanced visuals and audio are to be expected from the remaster, as well as updated resolution support and screen refresh settings. The PS4 and Xbox One can run the game in 4K, but all platforms except for the Switch can actually run the game in 1,080p with a frame rate of 60 frames per second (fps).

On the Switch, frame rate is capped at 30 fps, with the graphics tailored so that it runs smoothly on Nintendo's hybrid console.

All platforms can host dedicated servers for the game's online component. One of the most significant changes in the Remastered version is upping the player cap from four players to six max players online. Password matchmaking is also supported.

A Solaire of Astora amiibo will also be released alongside the game's launch. The amiibo can be used in tandem with the Switch and it will allow the player to spam the "Praise the Sun" gesture to their heart's content. Those who can do without the amiibo need not fret, though — the gesture can still be obtained in-game.

Those who want to try the game before buying it may be interested in a "network test" offered by Nintendo. This will let players download part of the game for testing purposes. They can check out the online components of the game before deciding whether they should buy it or not.

"Network test" is only available for Nintendo Switch users, however.

"Dark Souls Remastered" will be available for the Nintendo Switch on Mar. 25.
