To get fans pumped up for "Dark Souls 3," Bandai Namco released a batch of screenshots from the upcoming action role-playing video game. The images showcased a lot of the new things to find in the installment.

For starters, a new boss by the name of Iudex Gundyr was shown in his full ominous glory in one of the screenshots. The giant terrifying foe has a long spear-like sceptre for a weapon and he battles players to "test their worth," as per Forbes.

According to Gamespot, players will see dark mass all around when in a battle with this enemy. Gamers will encounter this "Dark Souls 3" baddie when they are revived in the Untended Graves as an "Unkindled."

It remains to be seen what an Unkindled actually is as it seems to be a new designation made for the much-awaited installment. From what it sounds, it is a bit of a portentous creature although it is unknown how it differs from the Hollow or Undead.

The "Dark Souls 3" screenshots also showcased a new version of one of the most recognizable locations in the franchise – the Firelink Shrine, where a Fire Keeper apparently lodges and helps warriors in need.

Players will see the Fire Keeper starting a bonfire. This mysterious individual is described to "serve players on their long and arduous journey." It remains unclear as to how he will be of assistance but he sure sounds powerful.

Apart from the Fire Keeper, there will also be new characters to meet in the said shrine. One of whom is Hawkwood, which is described as "an Unkindled and fugitive from Farron's Undead Legion."

There's also this "peculiar-looking man" in throne known only as Ludleth of Courland. A Lord of Cinder will also be appearing at some point in "Dark Souls 3" as well as a Pyromancer, who was shown in the Cathedral in one of the screens.

Speaking of the Cathedral, there's also a glimpse of the boss in that area. It is described as a "dirty beast known to dig up souls from underneath the swamp." Lastly, the screenshots also treated fans a close look at the The High Wall of Lothric.

Get a load of the screenshots here. There is no info on the resolution but Forbes says they don't look like they come from the PS4 or Xbox One version, not to mention PC.

"Dark Souls 3" releases April 12.
