'Dark Souls 3' news: Game director shares inspiration for game difficulty; player boxes first boss to death

Almost a week after its UK release and a couple of weeks before it heads west, "Dark Souls 3" is already getting lots of praise and gamers seem to be having so much fun exploring the action role-playing video game.

"Dark Souls 3" director Hidetaka Miyazaki recently sat down with Wired UK for an interview about the various aspects of the game, most especially its difficulty.

Miyazaki is best known for putting out games for their intricacy and their tendency to push players to the limit. "Dark Souls 3" is not any different.

"Ever since Demon's Souls, I've really been pursuing making games that give players a sense of accomplishment by overcoming tremendous odds," the "Dark Soul 3" director said.

"We've added new items and weapons over the course of the series, and having a certain level of difficulty adds value to those because they incentivise players to experiment more with character builds and weapon load-outs," he added.

Miyazaki wants "Dark Souls 3" players to come up with a certain approach or technique in exploring and overcoming the game. He wants them to maximize what their particular player class has to offer and use it to their advantage so as to progress and dominate the game.

And this early, it looks like Miyazaki will be happy to know that he may have inspired another player to do just that in "Dark Souls 3."

There's a new video making the rounds online featuring a player by the name BR34K putting the first boss to sleep without weapons but only with a series of punches.

The player did it all in six minutes. Within that time, the enemy grew larger in size, but with wallop after wallop landing on its body, it was eventually battered and beaten.

Fans have always known that the star of the "Dark Souls" games is their difficulty and players like BR34K are always tempted to tread the game in bare hands just to see how far they can go.

"Dark Souls 3" was released last March 24. It releases in the west on April 12.
