'Criminal Minds' season 12 spoilers: Paget Brewster could be series regular after 'Grandfathered' cancellation?

Paget Brewster as Emily Prentiss in "Criminal Minds" CBS

Paget Brewster will reprise her role as SSA Emily Prentiss in "Criminal Minds" season 12 for multiple episodes. The fan-favorite character will help the Behavioral Analysis Unit or BAU put a number of very dangerous fugitives back to prison.

In the last season, fans will remember that a bunch of serial killers, 13 to be exact, managed to escape prison in multiple and obviously successful breakout attempts.

Prentiss will once again be back in action to lend the BAU a hand in putting these criminals behind bars once more. Brewster will be around for multiple episodes of "Criminal Minds" season 12 to do that.

It was not specified what exactly the story arc where she will return will be all about and how many episodes Prentiss will be in.

Brewster, however, teased on her Twitter account that she will be in "a whole bunch," so fans won't have to worry about this "Criminal Minds" season 12 comeback being short.

She even tweeted a photo of her character's identification card and a pair of boots along with that tweet, suggesting that she is indeed more than ready to be back in action.

She is also thrilled about the idea of being reunited with her friends from the long-running show. Brewster left "Criminal Minds" after the seventh season.

She appeared twice after she left the show and fans have been longing to see her back to the fold ever since. With her "Criminal Minds" season 12 stint, this wait is over.

Brewster was reportedly able to come back because her schedule was cleared up following the cancellation of her show with John Stamos titled "Grandfathered" on FOX.

It remains to be seen if this will also open the opportunity for her to become series regular in "Criminal Minds" season 12.

She will also help "Criminal Minds" season 12's new series regular Adam Rodriguez to fill the void left by actor Shemar Moore, who will no longer return as Derek Morgan in the next season.

"Criminal Minds" season 12 premieres Wednesday, Sept. 28 at 9 p.m. ET on CBS.
