Fans are still shocked with the heartbreaking finale of "Chasing Life" season 2, leading to talks on the possibility of the show's renewal with ABC Family.

Monday night's sophomore season finale ended with a surprising declaration from the cancer-stricken protagonist April Carver (Italia Ricci). April told her best friend Beth (Aisha Dee) and boyfriend Dominic (Richard Brancatisano) that she had decided to stop going through any medical treatments to fight her disease so she could live the rest of her life without regrets.

Viewers of the show did not expect to hear this from April, who is known for having a strong disposition against her cancer. Ricci recently revealed to TV Line why April came up with the decision.

"Even though it might not be the right decision in a lot of people's eyes, it's the only one that gives her any power," Ricci said. "If she were to go back home and continue treatment, she'd be at the mercy of the hospital and the drugs for the rest of her life. She wants to be in control of however much of the rest of her life she has left, which I thought was really interesting."

Ricci also explained that April's decision somehow parallels how her father decided to spend the final days of his life even though she did not realize it at first.

Since "Chasing Life" is adapted from the Mexican TV series "Terminales" from Televisa, it can be expected that April will die at the end of the show. Could this mean that there will be another season for the US version since April is still alive?

In an interview with The Hollywood Reporter, showrunner Patrick Sean Smith said they still have a lot of plans for the series even if ABC Family is still mum about a season 3 renewal.

"There's a lot to explore in season three, like April's emotional state and her big decision to end treatment, there's a lot to explore with Uncle George and the manuscript and the investigation that's now in play, and then a lot to explore with Brenna and Finn now that Greer is moving back to town, and also what happens with Beth. I mean, everyone's life is up in the air right now by the end of the second season," Smith said.
