'Call of Duty' 2016 release date rumors: Game rumored to launch on Nintendo NX this year with subtitle 'Bloodlines'

Rumor has it that the "Call of Duty" 2016 iteration will be dubbed "Bloodlines." The shooter will allegedly be released on the Nintendo NX later this year. The information comes from prolific tipster Geno, who has proven himself credible with numerous accurate leaks.

The new "Call of Duty" title will purportedly be launched for the new Nintendo console, which is expected to be out by the end of the year. That being said, the upcoming "Call of Duty" 2016 installment could be one of the launch titles lined up for the Nintendo NX.

"Call of Duty: Black Ops 3" will allegedly be followed up by "Call of Duty: Bloodlines." Activision

At the moment, there's no official information as to when the Nintendo NX will be out. Nintendo has been completely tight-lipped about the device but promised to release details about the console this year.

As for the so-called "Call of Duty: Bloodlines," concrete information about the game is difficult to come by. Geno did not reveal anything else about the game. It has been confirmed, however, that developer Infinity Ward is once again in charge of the game's development.

The said game studio is best known for its work in the "Call of Duty: Ghosts" and "Call of Duty: Modern Warfare" series, which makes it easier to imagine that the next "Call of Duty" iteration could be a follow-up to either of those.

After all, Activision always tapped developer Treyarch when it comes to "Black Ops" titles as the studio knows it best. However, with "Modern Warfare" being more popular than "Ghosts," it makes more sense that a sequel to the former is in the works.

But as the new report suggests, it is possible that a brand new "Call of Duty" title is on the table, thus supporting the possibility of the rumored "Bloodlines" subtitle. Activision's desire for an "innovative" title may have also led them to do an entirely new iteration of its popular shooter.

Meanwhile, Geno also claims that "Call of Duty" publisher Activision is also thinking of bringing "Skylanders" to Nintendo NX, as well as a new game called "Spider-Man: The First Avenger" with Platinum Games and the "Destiny" sequel reportedly titled "Beyond Destiny."
