Blackberry Priv heading to Verizon next month?

This might be the perfect time to purchase a Blackberry Priv in Canada, with a carrier SaskTel leading the charge in offering a massive discount. It slashed CAD 150 from the standard price so users can now buy Blackberry's first Android offering from the said telecom company for only CAD 250.

GSM Arena notes that the discount comes after John Chen, CEO of the Canada-based tech company, announced what he said then was merely a likelihood of a price markdown in the days to come and a tease about a sequel to the smartphone.

"If the Priv is well received in the market and looks like it is. There's a good chance [...]," he told Bloomberg about the company releasing a follow-up to the physical keypad-laden handset. "We will still focus on the high-end probably closer to mid-range coming out in 2016," he added.

Just recently, the Blackberry Priv received praise from DxO Labs for the impressive performance of its rear-facing shooter. The group concluded that the device's 18-MP primary camera ranks among the top 10 mobile cameras it assessed.

According to DxO Labs, the handset can take stellar photos whether it is in good light or low light. In fact, the group claims that among the devices it tested, Blackberry's new slider phone has taken some of the best low-light snaps.

Apart from a tried and tested imaging performance, Blackberry takes pride in the formidable makings of the Blackberry Priv. In a recent video shared by the company, the device's quality and durability was showcased.

Meanwhile, rumor has it that the device is headed to Verizon. This is after an FCC listing of the device was spotted. In fact, there's word that the handset will be made available to the carrier's customers by January next year.

The Blackberry Priv comes in a 5.4-inch Quad HD curved edge display. It is powered by a Qualcomm Snapdragon 808 processor, which goes nicely with its 3 GB RAM and 32 GB storage space that is expandable up to 200GB.

It has a 3,140-mAh battery keeping the lights on and a 2-MP shooter for selfies. It runs Android 5.1.1 Lollipop but it is reportedly getting Android 6.0 Marshmallow sometime next year.
