Catherine and Vincent's love story will end in the finale of "Beauty and the Beast" season 4.

The CW announced Tuesday that the series starring Kristin Kreuk and Jay Ryan, inspired by the 1987 CBS TV show with the same title, will conclude at the end of its fourth season.

The cancellation announcement came alongside the news about the renewal of most of the shows on the network, including "The Vampire Diaries," "Arrow," "The Flash," and "Jane the Virgin," among others.

In spite having a highly dedicated fan base, "Beauty and the Beast" has been known as a mediocre ratings performer since its first season premiere in 2012, when it held an average of 0.6 rating in adult 18-49 demographic and an estimated 1.6 million live plus same-day total viewers that year.

The numbers dropped in its recently concluded season 3, when it reached an average of 0.23 in the demographic as almost 900,000 same-day total viewers based on the records gathered by Nielsen, according to Variety.

A 13-episode "Beauty and the Beast" season 4 by the network was ordered before the third season started airing this year, and it was announced by The CW president and self-confessed fan Mark Pedowitz during the Television Critics Association press tour last summer.

"One of our stated goals for the network was to have year-round programming. We're doing more and more of this, and having 'Beauty and the Beast' gives us some scripted programming for summer. We are developing other things at this point for next summer. So I plan to keep it there," the network president stated.

Kreuk earlier opened up about filming the fourth season before promoting season 3, saying that she felt weird about the set-up. "Once I start shooting and I'm on like, episode four, and 302 and 303 are airing, it's gonna be confusing."

Fans should expect to see how Cat and Vin will end up in the fourth and final season of "Beauty and the Beast" from The CW.
