'Battlefield 5' release date: EA DICE's recent tease not about game

As it turns out, EA DICE is not ready for a "Battlefield 5" reveal just yet. The company's media director Randy Evans tweeted last week about "a big trailer" on the way, which had many fans believing that it will be about the latest version of the first-person shooter franchise.

But the game studio was, in fact, promoting its upcoming open-world action-adventure game "Mirror's Edge: Catalyst," which not a lot of people knew about until the trailer for it was relesed..

"Mirror's Edge: Catalyst" will be released on May 24 for Xbox One, PS4 and PC with a closed beta scheduled. Players interested to check out the game can start registering.

As for "Battlefield 5," the wait is not yet over.

Despite EA DICE being tight-lipped about details of the upcoming "Battlefield" installment, it is widely believed that the game will be launched some time this year. The game studio is expected to wrap up its post-launch commitments with "Battlefield: Hardline." The final DLC of the game will reportedly be released next month to commemorate the title's first anniversary.

EA DICE is also reportedly shifting its focus to "Battlefield 5." However, if DICE development director Dan Vaderlind's tweet last month is anything to go by, the development for the title is well underway.

"Now that we've shipped Battlefront and a part of the team continues to work on it, I am moving on to another project, the next Battlefield," Vaderlind said.

In July, DICE CFO Blake Jorgensen mentioned that 2016 will be the year for "Battlefield 5." CEO Andrew Wilson also sai in 2014, as quoted by Gamespot, that the "next Battlefield experience is planned for launch in Q3" of 2016.

Unfortunately, it looks like it is still too early for concrete details about the game to arrive. It remains to be seen what EA DICE has in store for "Battlefield," so for now, fans will just have to wait and see.
