'Avengers: Infinity War' news: Trailer release date revealed after screenshots were leaked

The Avengers in "Avengers: Age of Ultron" Marvel/Disney

Marvel fans who have been waiting for the release of the official "Avengers: Infinity War" trailer may now have an exact date to mark on their calendars. In contrast to early speculations, the newest report reveals it will not be attached to the upcoming "Star Wars: The Last Jedi." It will actually come earlier than the Disney/Lucasfilm blockbuster.

Jeremy Conrad, formerly of IGN and Furious Fanboys, recently claimed that Marvel will drop the highly anticipated trailer in early December.

"Looks like the early December Infinity War trailer date is confirmed," he wrote on Twitter on Thursday.

The online release of the trailer will reportedly precede the premiere of "The Last Jedi," but will accompany Rian Johnson's film in cinemas. Citing unnamed sources, he said in a follow-up tweet that it will likely hit the internet between the 1st and 8th.

As to how and where it will debut is unclear, but Comic Book predicts Disney may release it themselves just like what they did to "Captain America: Civil War" or premiere it during ABC's "Jimmy Kimmel Live!" The studio did the latter with "Doctor Strange," "Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 2," and "Spider-Man: Homecoming."

News of the "Infinity War" trailer release comes on the heels of its screenshot leak. Earlier on the same day, photos allegedly from the yet-to-be-unveiled trailer surfaced on Reddit, courtesy of user TheAscendedAncient. The images have since been deleted, but MCU Exchange was able to obtain a copy.

One of the photos offers the very first look at villain Proxima Midnight, a member of Thanos' (Josh Brolin) Black Order, as she fights Steve Rogers (Chris Evans), Falcon (Anthony Mackie), and Black Widow (Scarlett Johansson). Scarlet Witch (Elizabeth Olsen) and Vision (Paul Bettany) are also in the screenshots.

Disney debuted the first "Infinity War" footage to attendees of D23 and then San Diego Comic-Con. However, it was exclusively made for those events only and has not been made available publicly to date.

Those in attendance say the footage sees a confrontation between Thanos and both the Avengers and the Guardians of the Galaxy as he attempts to complete the Infinity Gauntlet and attain infinite power. The final shot then demonstrates that power as the Mad Titan used the Gauntlet to pull down an entire planet on the opposing heroes.

Directed by Joe and Anthony Russo, "Avengers: Infinity War" is slated to premiere on May 4, 2018.
