Marvel Studios finally released the synopsis of the upcoming "Avengers: Age of Ultron" film, the sequel to the 2012 hit movie Marvel's "The Avengers."

The synopsis reads:

Marvel Studios presents Avengers: Age of Ultron, the epic follow-up to the biggest Super Hero movie of all time. When Tony Stark tries to jumpstart a dormant peacekeeping program, things go awry and Earth's Mightiest Heroes, including Iron Man, Captain America, Thor, The Incredible Hulk, Black Widow and Hawkeye, are put to the ultimate test as the fate of the planet hangs in the balance. As the villainous Ultron emerges, it is up to The Avengers to stop him from enacting his terrible plans, and soon uneasy alliances and unexpected action pave the way for an epic and unique global adventure.

Marvel's Avengers: Age of Ultron stars Robert Downey Jr., who returns as Iron Man, along with Chris Evans as Captain America, Chris Hemsworth as Thor and Mark Ruffalo as The Hulk. Together with Scarlett Johansson as Black Widow and Jeremy Renner as Hawkeye, and with the additional support of Samuel L. Jackson as Nick Fury and Cobie Smulders as Agent Maria Hill, the team must reassemble to defeat James Spader as Ultron, a terrifying technological villain hell-bent on human extinction. Along the way, they confront two mysterious and powerful newcomers, Wanda Maximoff, played by Elizabeth Olsen, and Pietro Maximoff, played by Aaron Taylor-Johnson, and meet an old friend in a new form when Paul Bettany becomes Vision. Written and directed by Joss Whedon and produced by Kevin Feige, Marvel's Avengers: Age of Ultron is based on the ever-popular Marvel comic book series "The Avengers," first published in 1963. Get set for an action-packed thrill ride when The Avengers return in Marvel's Avengers: Age of Ultron on May 1, 2015."

Though the synopsis did not gave a lot of details about the movie's actual storyline, fans of the Marvel flick now know that Tony Stark will be the central character in this installment. This also confirms that the lead stars are back to reprise their roles from the first Avengers film.

It is still uncertain if the Ant-Man will also appear in this instalment of the Avengers franchise. In the Marvel comics, Ant-Man is known for creating the evil Ultron. Fans of the Marvel comic series have pointed out that if the movie adaptation wants to remain faithful to the story in the comics, then maybe this character should appear in the film in a cameo or during the end credits. It would also be a good idea since it was reported that the studio is planning to come up with a stand-alone "Ant-Man" film due to be released sometime in 2015.

The Ant-Man is also known as Dr. Hank Pym in the Marvel Comics series.

However, International Business Times UK mentioned that Avengers director Joss Whedon already said that he wants to come up with his original concept of how Ultron was created, which could probably make Tony Stark the creator of the evil villain.

Produced by Marvel Studios and internationally distributed by Walt Disney Studios Motion Pictures, "Avengers: Age of Ultron" is the 11th installment in the Marvel Cinematic Universe, which includes "Iron Man," "Thor," "Captain America," and "Guardians of the Galaxy" franchises.

The first Avengers movie broke box-office records as it garnered $207 million during its opening weekend, and reached $1.5 billion worldwide when it was released in 2012.

Avengers: Age of Ultron is expected to be released on May 1, 2015 in North America.
