'Attack on Titan' season 2 update: Tetsuro Araki admits difficulty in adapting best-selling manga into anime

Anime director Tetsuro Araki revealed that translating a popular manga like "Attack on Titan" is not an easy feat, especially since fans are already eager to watch the anime's second season.

In an exclusive interview for the April edition of Bessatsu Shōnen magazine, Araki revealed that he has to work extra hard to give justice to the popular manga created by Hajime Isayama.

"It's rare to adapt manga with a storyline that's this impressive, so I will be extra cautious. Whether it's season 1 or season 2, I'll be mentally prepared to face the production challenges," Araki said (translation shared by Fuku-Shuu).

Reports claim that the production of "Attack on Titan" season 2 has to be delayed to wait for the development of the four story arcs of the manga. At the moment, the manga has completed two story arcs, which means that it could still take a while before the anime production could push through.

Meanwhile, speculations claim that the second season of "Attack on Titan" will feature the hidden ability of lead character Eren Yeager to transform into a Titan. This could mean that the anime will explain how Eren acquired the ability and how it will affect his quest to fight the deadly Titans that bring destruction to his city.

Anime News Network, meanwhile, revealed that Kodansha Comics finally announced on Tuesday that Hiroshi Seko's spin-off novel of "Attack on Titan" titled "Attack on Titan: Lost Girls" will be released in manga this summer.

The manga version, created by Ryōsuke Fuji, debuted in Bessatsu Shōnen Magazine in August 2015 after the novel was released in Japan in December 2014 and adapted in English in June.

The novel focuses on the adventures of Eren's female companions Mikasa and Annie. Both characters were featured in three short stories, titled "Lost in the Cruel World," "Wall Sina, Goodbye" and "Lost Girls." There is no report yet whether the manga will come out in the English language.
