'Arrow' season 4 spoilers: EP Wendy Mericle weighs in on Felicity's speculated Oracle transformation

Ever since Felicity met a horrible fate in the final moments of the midseason finale of "Arrow" season 4, some fans speculated that she will take on the role of Oracle, who, in the comics, is actually Barbara Gordon's hacking expert alter ego that she went with after she was paralyzed.

In an Australian promo for the midseason premiere "Blood Debts," it was revealed that Felicity is "never going to walk again." This fuelled the speculations that Felicity will soon become Oracle. However, executive producer Wendy Mericle made sure to clarify once and for all that this Oracle shift is "off the table."

The EP admitted to TV Line that this premise was "something we definitely talked about [doing] with Felicity in the beginning." Fans will remember that a Felicity-centric episode in "Arrow" season 3 was once titled "Oracle" before it was changed to "The Secret Origin of Felicity Smoak."

"But yeah, it will not be Oracle, sadly. People have to tune in to see what happens," Mericle then teased. But if there's anything that the folks behind the show want fans to look forward to the most in "Arrow" season 4, it's Oliver's plot of revenge against the man that put the love of his life on a wheelchair.

Oliver is determined to kill Damien Darhk but it certainly won't be an easy feat. In usual "Arrow" fashion, the villain will be at his strongest when the time comes for his ultimate standoff with the Green Arrow and fans will notice that the build up will be the same format as the previous seasons.

"We're going to throw a hard six in episode 15 that I think will surprise people," executive producer Marc Guggenheim told IGN. He also mentioned that the "Arrow" season 4 installment in question will be "a real game-changer episode for us." "We're going to do something that's never been done before on Arrow with the Big Bad," Guggenheim teased.

"Arrow" season 4 returns on Jan. 20 at 8 p.m. ET with an episode called "Blood Debts" on CW. In a batch of promotional images from the episode, it was also confirmed that Anarky will be back to wreak havoc.
