'Arrow' season 4 spoilers: Felicity, Laurel as Starling City's new protectors?

Emily Bett Rickards and Katie Cassidy (pictured with David Ramsey) said that they are willing to protect Starling City when Arrow returns for season four. The CW

Starling City is currently unprotected since Oliver Queen (Stephen Amell) has decided that he no longer wants to be a hero. Now that he has started a new life with Felicity Smoak (Emily Bett Rickards), who will step up to save the city from the lawless when "Arrow" returns for season 4?

Early this month, Rickards told IGN that she is open to the possibility of her character Felicity donning a hero's suit. With Oliver, they could be a superhero couple when the series returns to The CW in fall. The actress also said that she is open to having an alter ego next season, but she would not like it if she had to wear the Atom suit again.

Katie Cassidy, the actress who portrays the role of Laurel Lance in the superhero series, said that Laurel's alter ego Black Canary will play a big role in saving Starling City next season. In an interview with DCTV, the actress said that the "strong, independent" Laurel will be "stepping up" as the leader of Team Arrow in season 4. It means that the lawyer-turned-vigilante could have a bigger falling out with her father Quentin Lance (Paul Blackthorne), who is bent for the longest time on putting the Arrow behind bars.

Meanwhile, other cast members of "Arrow" shared several details about season 4 with Spoiler TV early this week.

David Ramsey said that something big is waiting for his character John Diggle, including a new costume. According to the actor, Diggle will have a new outfit that will give "concealment and armor," which could come in handy once Oliver's loyal friend faces the main villain in season 4.

Ramsey and Amell also shared that they want to see the two closest people in Oliver's life, Thea (Willa Holland) and Roy (Colton Haynes), get redemption next season. Oliver's younger sister decided to follow Roy's escape route after taking the fall for his dear friend at the end of season 3.

"Arrow" season 4 is expected to return this fall on The CW.
