Apple Watch 2 release date news: announcement expected at June WWDC; to be followed by September release?

The Apple Watch 2 is expected to be announced next month. Apple

The Apple Watch 2 is expected to be one of Apple's showcases in the upcoming Worldwide Developers Conference (WWDC) next month. Unveiling the smartwatch on the event should give way to its further development.

Revealing the device in June should give developers ample time to come up with a rich library of apps and features for the Apple Watch 2 that should all be ready by fall, including the device itself.

According to Tech Radar, the revamped Apple Watch will not be drastically changed design-wise, although the company is expected to find a way to make it thinner.

Other than that, Apple is rumored to focus on the device's insides. The tech titan is reportedly going to use a faster ARM-based processor on the Apple Watch 2 that should prolong the device's poor battery life.

Apple Watch users weren't happy about the device dying on them because of its juice's short life span. This is expected to change with the chipset based on the ARM Cortex A32.

This processor is a quarter times faster than what the current Apple Watch has. The chipset should also bump up the Apple Watch 2's speed and overall performance.

The Apple Watch 2 is also rumored to be less dependent on a smartphone this time. Apple is reportedly planning to integrate cellular network connectivity on the device. Through this, Apple Watch 2 users won't need to bring a phone to fully take advantage of their smartwatch. They will no longer need an iPhone to open third party apps. Receiving or sending data should be faster and more efficient, too.

The new and improved Apple Watch won't be the star of the WWDC, though, since a slew of Apple offerings expected to be unveiled during the event.

The list includes the long-rumored MacBook Pro and Air 2016 and the iOS 10, as well as updates on the Apple TV, Apple Pay and the macOS or the OS X.

If Apple makes the Apple Watch 2 official during the WWDC scheduled June 13 to 17, its release date should be around September.
