Yosemite OS X 10.10.3 beta details: Improved Photos app, new emoji in latest build update

After Apple Inc. sent out the first OS X 10.10.3 pre-release update early this month to developers who signed up for the beta testing, a number of issues were found in the new iPhoto replacement called Photos. On Monday, the tech giant finally released an updated build that focuses on that particular feature.

The new 14D87h build that rolled out through the Mac Apple Store aims to fix the problems that came in the earlier version of Photos. However, the Cupertino tech firm still warns early users that they might still encounter several photo viewing problems since several interface elements and animations cannot be displayed properly.

Also, the Photos app features a new bar located at the lower part of the window. Its main function is to present a list of new people who are recommended to be added into the user's Faces albums that can be scrolled vertically or minimized. This process is reported to be a little slower compared to the earlier version of iPhotos since users are required to go through the process by opening a new window.

In addition, the new OS X 10.10.3 beta update introduces a brand new set of emoji and emoji skin tone modifiers. It means that people can now select a specific skin tone from one of the available six choices. This additional emoji options may be a result of the company's promise to broaden the diversity of skin tones available for human emoji after Unicode proposed in November that they need to feature more races in the line-up of special characters.

Some of the most notable additional diverse emoji include family emoji with several same sex couples that either come with children or are not in any kind of skin tone. It also added 32 new country flags, including India, Canada, Australia, and the Philippines.

The current OS X 10.10.3 beta can now be downloaded by the developers who signed up for the testing via the Apple Development Center or through the Mac App Store.
