iPhone 7 release date, specs: users can enjoy exciting new features thanks to Smart Connector

The iPhone 7, successor of the pictured iPhone 6s, is expected to boast an all-around Smart Connector. Apple

Leaks of the Apple iPhone 7 hint that the device will feature a Smart Connector on its rear. No specifics are provided as to how Apple plans to use it, but media outlets know a range of possibilities this particular piece of equipment presents.

For starters, BGR says that the Smart Connector can act as a wireless charger with the use of some kind of magnetic connector. It can also be used a secondary charging unit, such as for wireless headphones, which Apple is reportedly working on for the iPhone 7 as well.

Juicing up can already be entrusted with the Lightning connector rumored to replace the headphone jack in the iPhone 7 but with the Smart Connector, the abovementioned port can be solely used for headphones.

The Smart Connector is also rumored to allow the iPhone 7 to be plugged in or connected to other devices like a tablet or accessories such as external microphones or additional cameras or lenses.

While it remains to be seen Apple needs the Smart Connector for, the fact that it is consistently present in various leaks of the upcoming iPhone hints that the Cupertino-based company has a trick or two up its sleeves.

As for the camera department of the flagship, Japanese magazine Mac Fan shared device schematics of what it referred to as the iPhone 7 "Pro," which comes with a dual camera setup and ditches the headphone jack.

The latter was done not for the build of the device to be thinner, as previous rumors suggested. The publication claims (via Macotakara) that the iPhone 7 "Pro" will actually be as thick as iPhone 6s Plus at 7.3mm to give way to the pair of camera to be used on the device.

Mac Fan also suggests that the iPhone 7 will come in four versions. One comes with a 4.7-inch display while the rest are at 5.5 inches.

Apple is yet to comment about the leaks involving the iPhone 7, so users are advised to take it with a pinch of salt. Whatever Apple has in store for the new iPhone, users should discover by September.
