iOS 8.1 update encouraged for older Apple devices

Since its release back in September, iOS 8 received tons of complaints from those who decided to update their Apple devices early. After several weeks, the company claims that things are better now that the iOS 8.1 has been released.

MacRumors reported that the Cupertino-based tech firm is sending emails to customers urging them to upgrade their operating system to its latest version.

As of November, only 59 percent of Apple device owners have updated their operating systems to the latest iOS, according to MixPanel. The numbers increased from Oct. 27's data, which said that only 52 percent decided to update to the latest iOS 8 version.

The message reminded iOS users that their "iOS 8 update is waiting." It also included several details about the things that come with the iOS update, such as the new Health app, the iCloud Drive, QuickType, Continuity, as well as Family Sharing.

iOS 8 was hounded with tons of problems during the first weeks of its release. Customers complained that the update affected the battery life and Wi-Fi connections of their devices, as well as several Bluetooth problems that they did not experience with their older operating system. This prompted the company to release the iOS 8.1 a month later.

The company claims that the new update was released after the developers made sure that everything is in proper order, and it could bring "increased stability and performance improvements for iPad 2 and iPhone 4s." These models are the ones that took the major blows when they were updated with the iOS 8 during the first days of its release.

iPad 2 users are more hesitant to do the update on their devices, since there are lots of reports saying that the performance was greatly affected when they got the iOS 8 update. But new reviews are saying that their iPad 2 units are now working perfectly with the iOS 8.1.

Yet Forbes pointed out that the iOS 8.1 may not do more for the latest models of iPhones and iPads compared to the advantages that the iPad 2 and other older models are experiencing at the moment. Perhaps an iOS 9 update could give them better advantages once Apple decides to release it in the future.
