'Ant-Man and the Wasp' spoilers: Final set photos may confirm original Wasp's fate

A new batch of pictures from the set of Marvel's upcoming film "Ant-Man and the Wasp" have made it online, possibly revealing the fate of the original Wasp, Janet van Dyne, to be played by Michelle Pfeiffer.

As 2015's "Ant-Man" explained, Janet worked as the superhero Wasp for many years alongside her husband Hank Pym (Michael Douglas) as Ant-Man. They took many operations until her apparent death when she went sub-atomic to disarm a nuclear missile and got lost in the Quantum Realm. Hank has all but given up trying to rescue her until he witnessed Scott Lang (Paul Rudd) survive the same scenario.

There is not much known about the plot of the sequel, but its synopsis does say Scott will work together with Janet and Hank's daughter, Hope (Evangeline Lilly), "to uncover secrets of the past." That could very well be the search for the original Wasp. In this case, the new set photos may have just revealed the outcome of that mission.

Published photos from the final days of the movie's production in Hawaii show Hank and Janet walking along the beach. The site notes Pfeiffer who is usually blonde had gone grey in a bid to age her appearance for the role, suggesting the scene takes place after she has returned. However, apart from being rescued, the biggest takeaway here is that she got older.

Screen Rant notes that time is irrelevant in Marvel Cinematic Universe's Quantum Realm. With Janet's grey hair, that is clearly not the case. It seems that Hank still has so much to learn about the other realm, despite spending years studying it.

Currently, there are still two more movies on the calendar before "Ant-Man and the Wasp," consisting of the much-awaited "Black Panther" and "Avengers: Infinity War." Marvel has yet to release a trailer for the movie, but considering it is due out in eight months, fans may not have to wait too long for the footage.

Directed by Peyton Reed, "Ant-Man and the Wasp" is set to open in cinemas on July 6, 2018.
