The latest trailer for the upcoming movie from the ever-expanding Marvel Cinematic Universe (MCU), "Ant-Man and the Wasp," introduced a mysterious villain known as Ghost. The character was already confirmed as the next adversary to Paul Rudd's downsized superhero, Scott Lang/Ant-Man, although the fans saw the villain in action for the first time in the recent trailer.

The "Ant-Man and the Wasp" villain, to be portrayed by actress Hannah John-Kamen of "Ready Player One," was previously teased in the new movie poster, although the fans just got the chance to know more about Ghost with the latest trailer. As reported by Complex, Ghost is shown as a challenging opponent as even the likes of Ant-Man, who can reduce his body to the size of a mere insect, cannot inflict damage on the villain. It appears that Ghost got her abilities from a technology stolen from Hank Pym (Michael Douglas), and it will be Scott's job to retrieve this item before it can be used to destroy the world.

In an interview with Entertainment Weekly, "Ant-Man and the Wasp" director Peyton Reed gave a short description of the villain Ghost. The director said that the character could be a male or a female, although it sounded more interesting to his team if a woman would be cast to play the villain. Moreover, Ghost has this power to become intangible, thus Ant-Man will have a very hard time taking his new opponent down.

"Ghost's primary power is the ability to 'phase,' which allows Ghost to move through solid matter. She has all sorts of strange versions of that phasing power, it proves quite difficult for Ant-Man and Wasp to deal with," Reed added. The latest trailer also confirms that the events in the movie will take place before the timeline of the recently premiered "Avengers: Infinity War." Interestingly, there will be a short blast from the past as the original Wasp, to be played by Michelle Pfeiffer, will have a signficant part in the movie, especially when it comes to explaining the theoretical "quantum realm."

"Ant-Man and the Wasp" will be released in theaters worldwide on July 5, 2018.
