Google officially confirmed that the next Android OS version is called Android 6.0 Marshmallow, and it is expected to roll out sometime this fall.
While it is not surprising that Nexus devices will be the first ones to receive the update once it rolls out, other mobile phone manufacturers that use Android are also expected to update their products with the soon-to-be released Android 6.0 Marshmallow.
One of the first brands to announce their intended updates is South Korean mobile giant Samsung. The brand recently launched their next smartphone flagship lines in New York, and they are expected to come out with the latest Android 5.1 Lollipop software straight out of the box.
After Google announced that the final developer's preview for the Android 6.0 Marshmallow had been released last week, Samsung also revealed the list of devices that will be able to support the upcoming Android update. It includes the new Samsung Galaxy Note 5, Galaxy S6 edge+, Galaxy S6, Galaxy S6 Duos, and the Galaxy S6 Edge flagship products, as well as the other lineups like the Galaxy Note 4, Galaxy Note 4 Duos, Galaxy Alpha, and Galaxy Tab A.
Once Android 6.0 Marshmallow rolls out to selected Samsung Galaxy devices, it will begin supporting the following features:
- App Permissions – This feature would allow customization of the app access on the smartphone, including the user's location, contacts, images, and the like.
- Track Memory – A Memory tab feature on the Android 6.0 Marshmallow will let the user monitor which app is taking too much space in the device and how often they run while the smartphone is in use.
- Quick Fingerprint Access – This is an added security feature in which the user's fingerprint will be required before allowing access to secured platforms like Google Play Store. It will also minimize the need to memorize and key in passwords for such platforms.
- Auto Backup – Android 6.0 Marshmallow can now automatically back up all app user data and settings up to 25 MB for each app into Google Drive.
- Power Saving – A Doze mode will be activated when the device is not used for a long time to lessen battery consumption.
Samsung is expected to roll out the Android 6.0 Marshmallow update early in 2016 if Google pushes through with releasing the latest mobile OS late this year.
