Just days after the Blackberry Priv was spotted donning Android 6.0 Marshmallow, it was confirmed that Google's latest operating system will officially be on its way to the handset very soon.

Blackberry has expressed its plans to release Marshmallow beta to the Blackberry Priv. Blackberry Handheld Software Product Management director Michael Clewley took to Twitter to break the news.

That being said, Blackberry Priv fans can expect the beta to come before April ends, while the final build of Android 6.0 Marshmallow could be here by May, at the earliest.

Unfortunately, there's no more information provided about the rollout or the changes that come with the update.

Nonetheless, this still comes as good news to Blackberry Priv despite the longer wait. The keyboard-laden smartphone was released back in November, roughly a month after Google released Android 6.0 Marshmallow.

Blackberry said that there will be a delay in the Marshmallow rollout for the device. Indeed, the supposed May release of the mobile OS next month marks half a year since the Blackberry Priv was outed.

Android 6.0 Marshmallow comes with battery-saving features such as the new Doze mode, which will put the Blackberry Priv in a deep sleep and close all the apps running in the background.

The OS also introduces the new Do Not Disturb mode, which allows Blackberry Priv users to select which contacts and apps can send notifications. The Attentive Display dims the screen when the handset is not in use to further save some juice.

One fan-favorite Android 6.0 Marshmallow feature is the Google Now on Tap, which displays information relevant to the user based on their interests and activities for easy access.

The software also introduces a more secure permission system in apps. On top of all that, there are the usual bug fixes, performance tweaks and stability improvements that will make Android experience better altogether in the Blackberry Priv.

A specific date for the rollout of the Marshmallow beta on the device should be revealed soon. If all goes well with that, the final build's release should be announced shortly after.
