The long wait for the latest Android update may soon be over, as Google announced that the Android 5.0 Lollipop update will soon be rolling out over-the-air to selected devices like smartphones and tablets.

Currently, the Android 5.0 Lollipop is already running in Google's recently released flagship devices, the Nexus 6 smartphone and the Nexus 9 tablet. Other Nexus products will also be given the new operating system update, including the Nexus 4, Nexus 5, the first and second generations of Nexus 7, as well as the Nexus 10. Soon, the Google Play Edition devices like the Moto G and the HTC One M8 will also be updated with the new operating system software.

The said roll out began Monday, Nov. 3, alongside the release of Nexus 9.

Android designer Nicholas Jitkoff mentioned the rollout during his article that discussed the improved design feature of Android that will be present in all the devices that will be using it.

"Design is a major focus for Lollipop—the latest version of Android—which begins to roll out today," the designer stated.

Jitkoff also touched on the material design, saying, "When you think about mobile, an important aspect is the feel of the devices in your hand. Because of this, touch is one of the primary elements of material design, which is inspired by real-life materials like paper and ink."

Yet the Android designer did not reveal any details about which regions will get the update first.

Aside from the Nexus devices, other smartphones will also begin to update the Android operating systems soon. Among the first brands to announce the Android 5.0 Lollipop update on their flagship devices are HTC, which already informed the public that its One M7 and One M8 will get the new OS within 90 days, Motorola, as well as Sony Mobile.

Meanwhile, Samsung and LG have yet to announce when their flagship phones and other smart devices will get the highly anticipated OS update schedule.
