Android 5.0 Lollipop releasing to Lenovo A600, P70, Sisley S90, Vibe X2/Z2 and more

Lenovo A6000, one of the devices that will be given the Android 5.0 Lollipop update in the second quarter of the year.

Over the past months, a number of mobile phone manufacturers already announced that they are rolling out the Android 5.0 Lollipop update to their products. Now, Lenovo has finally joined the bandwagon and unveiled the list of devices that will be given the operating system update.

The China-based mobile manufacturing giant announced that seven of their smartphone devices are included in the planned update to the latest Android software scheduled in the second quarter of 2015. According to the "Android Upgrade Matrix" site posted by the company, Lenovo is planning to launch the Lollipop update for seven smartphones under their brand, including:

  • Lenovo A6000
  • Lenovo P70
  • Lenovo Sisley S90
  • Lenovo Vibe X2
  • Lenovo Vibe Z2
  • Lenovo Vibe Z2 Pro
  • Lenovo A5000

All these devices are currently running the earlier Android 4.4 KitKat version, but come second quarter of the year, all these devices will be upgraded to Lollipop.

However, the roadmap of one of the leading Chinese smartphone giants claimed that the update will only cover the unlocked Lenovo smartphones that were purchased directly from their authorized retailers. It means that those purchased from network carriers with contract are not included in the rollout plan.

"The upgrade is only applied to the models above bought from retail market; operators customized or contract models are not covered."

Since Lenovo did not mention the exact date of the update rollout, consumers can expect to get it sometime between April and June 2015.

To find out if the Android 5.0 Lollipop is already available for Lenovo devices, users should go to the Settings tab of their smartphones, then click on the About tab, then select Phone Software updates. Finally, the availability of the Android update can be seen in the Check now tab.

However, Lenovo still has to announce their planned Android 5.0 Lollipop update for other devices under their product line aside from the seven mentioned.
