A number of new apps featured in the latest Android 5.0 Lollipop update can now be downloaded before the scheduled release of Google's latest mobile operating system software, thanks to the leaked system file dump that came from the Android 5.0 Lollipop Developer Preview.
The leaked files shared by Phandroid include several Google apps such as the Google Play Music, the Messenger app that used to be known as Google Messaging, Google Calendar, Google Keep, Google Fit, Google Drive, Google Books, as well as Gmail.
iDigital Times mentioned that the leaked apps can be sideloaded to an Android device. They just need to be rooted and placed in the /system/lib folder once the original apps have been uninstalled.
However, Phandroid pointed out that not all apps will work properly with just a simple sideloading procedure. Still, two apps managed to work well after being sideloaded successfully in a Nexus 5 device that runs on an Android 5.0 Lollipop Developer Preview. These are the Google Play Music and Google Messenger apps.
Compared to its successor in the earlier Android versions, Google Messenger features a simplified, minimalistic interface in Android 5.0 Lollipop update. It also has a new Material Design look and it contains more streamlined functions.
It is also mentioned that adding attachments in a running conversation is more straightforward in the new Messenger. The user can simply take a photo with the use of the built-in viewfinder, record a voice message, or select photos from the gallery then attach it in the ongoing conversation. There are different colors assigned to different conversations that are running at the same time.
Several reports are also saying that the Messenger app can also work well on the Android 4.4 KitKat version.
Meanwhile, both the leaks for Google Play Music and Google Fit showed that these two new apps have a simpler and more modern look in the Android 5.0 Lollipop update.
Those who will download the new apps are advised to make a back-up of their original apps before switching to the new updates.
