The premiere episode of "American Horror Story" season 6 is just right around the corner, but the next theme for Ryan Murphy's critically acclaimed horror anthology series is still being kept in the dark.

In the previous seasons, Murphy typically let the viewers know everything about the show months before FX releases the premiere episode. But for season 6, the series creator opted to remain silent to heighten the mystery.

During the Television Critics Association press tour in August, FX CEO John Landgraf explained why they opted not to share the plot earlier this time. "Every year, we've basically laid out the theme, the new genre that Ryan's going to be approaching, and we just thought it'd be really fun to keep it a mystery [this time]," Landgraf stated during the press tour as reported by Digital Spy.

To add up to the excitement and derail the fans from finding out what they should look forward to, the network released a string of fake teasers. However, the latest trailer seemed to offer a major hint about the plot for the upcoming season.

The 30-second trailer featured a montage of scenes taken from all the past teasers that were released, but it came out with Lady Gaga's brand new single titled "Perfect Illusion." This led to speculations that the music icon will play another vital role in the series after her Golden Globe Award-winning portrayal of the blood-drinking character named The Countess in "American Horror Story: Hotel."

Aside from Lady Gaga, other cast members for the sixth season of "American Horror Story" include Denis O' Hare, Angela Bassett, Kathy Bates, Evan Peters, Wes Bentley, Matt Bomer, Leslie Jordan, Finn Wittrock, and Leslie Jordan. However, the roles also remain a mystery at the moment.

"American Horror Story" season 6 is slated to premiere on Wednesday, Sept. 14, at 10 p.m. EDT on FX.
