Most fans of "American Horror Story" believed that they were tricked by series creator Ryan Murphy last season when he said that the top hat shown on a cup was a major clue for the next installment of the popular horror anthology, but new reports claim that the hint was tastefully hidden behind it all along.

In October, Murphy told the Entertainment Weekly that the paper cup with a big top-hat logo has something to do with the plot of "American Horror Story" season 5.

According to the series showrunner, "That is a big season 5 clue! It's an arcane clue, but it's very purposeful, and it illuminates something that you'll be like, 'Oh! You dirty bastard!'"

Because of that clue, most viewers assumed that Murphy will feature the Operation Top Hat plot in the next installment of the series. If that were the case, "AHS" season 5 would focus on the local field exercise of the U.S. Army that involved testing chemical and biological weapons on humans.

But recently, multi-awarded singer/ songwriter Lady Gaga revealed that she will be a part of the new "AHS" season, and the title of the next installment is "American Horror Story: Hotel." So how does the top hat fit in all of these?

According to the latest report from Entertainment Weekly, the top hat is a direct clue for Lady Gaga herself, as well as the hotel plot. Based on the article, a Mark Sandrich film shown in 1935 is titled "Top Hat," and it was set in a hotel. Moreover, the theme song for the said film titled "Cheek to Cheek" also happens to be the title of Gaga's collaboration album with Tony Bennett.

It simply shows that Murphy was right when he said that the clues were already there all along.

The next season of "American Horror Story" is expected to come out in October this year.
