'Agents of SHIELD' season 5 spoilers, cast news: Will Nick Blood return for more episodes?

Nick Blood as Lance Hunter in "Agents of SHIELD" ABC

After Nick Blood's return as Lance Hunter in the fifth episode of "Agents of SHIELD" season 5, everybody now wants to know if he would be back again for more episodes in the future. The actor just weighed in on that possibility, and his answer gives reason to hope.

"Who knows! You know what Marvel's like...," the actor commented to TV Line. "Agents Of SHIELD is always full of surprises, and things can change overnight. Like, I don't think anyone expected Brett Dalton to return, and yet he did [for Season 4C]. You never know in this world, but I'm sure I will be the last to be told their plans!"

Indeed, comic book-based properties like "Agents of SHIELD" have a reputation of bringing back characters, even dead ones like Brett Dalton's Grant Ward. The former SHIELD agent has notably kept finding new ways to come back to life over and over again, first returning as the host of Hive and then as a hero within the Framework. That makes Hunter's return easier and more logical seeing he is still very much alive.

As recalled, Blood was written off the show alongside Adrianne Palicki who played his ex-wife Bobbi Morse in season 3 to help launch their own spin-off "Most Wanted." Their characters were disavowed from SHIELD due to their activity. Unfortunately, the show never got off the ground, paving the way for his return in "Rewind."

The episode saw Fitz (Iain De Caestecker) left behind in prison, while his friends were abducted to space unbeknownst to him. Hunter reappeared to help him break out and figure out a way to get back with Coulson and Co. Check out a clip of the scene below:

At this point, there are no confirmed plans of Blood's comeback, but the episode that brought him back did leave the door open not just for him but also for Bobbi's reappearance. Fans can only keep their fingers crossed that they will soon reunite with the gang.

"Agents of SHIELD" season 5 returns on Friday, Jan. 5, with "Fun and Games" at 9 p.m. EST on ABC.
