Ford has added a new model to its ST lineup — the 2019 Edge, making it the American automaker's first performance-enhanced SUV.
The 2019 Edge ST features the same powertrain as the outgoing Edge Sport — a 2.7-liter twin-turbocharged EcoBoost V6 engine. However, thanks to enhancements made by the Ford Performance, the all-new Edge ST is able to produce 335 horsepower and 380 pound-feet of torque — much better than the 315 horsepower and 350 pound-feet of its predecessor.
The 2019 Edge ST comes standard with an eight-speed automatic transmission with Auto Start-Stop for improved fuel efficiency as well as an all-wheel-drive system with selectable traction control.
The performance-enhanced midsize crossover also comes with 20-inch wheels, a sport suspension, bigger brakes, steering wheel-mounted paddle shifters for manual shifting and a new Sport Mode for a more dynamic driving experience.
In line with the 2018 Edge ST's enhanced abilities, Ford has given the performance SUV a more confident and aggressive appearance. New styling cues include a wider hexagonal mesh grille for better engine cooling, deeper side skirts, unique dual-exhaust outlets and LED headlights.
Meanwhile, the cabin features Ford Performance sill plates, ST badging on the leather-wrapped steering wheel, black leather seats with suede inserts and silver accent stitching, and an ST gauge cluster.
Available technologies include wireless charging, an HD radio, a 12-speaker B&O Play premium audio system as well as the SYNC 3 infotainment system with an 8-inch touchscreen display, Apple CarPlay, Android Auto and Amazon Alexa integration and Wi-Fi hotspot for up to 10 devices.
Safety features offered include forward collision warning with brake support, blind-spot monitoring with cross-traffic alert, lane keep assist, auto high beams, hill-start assist, post-collision braking, evasive steering assist and adaptive cruise control.
The 2019 Ford Edge ST will go on sale this summer. Pricing has yet to be revealed. Expect more details to be revealed during the official debut of all-new performance-enhanced SUV at the North American International Auto Show in Detroit next week.
