'13 Reasons Why' season 2 spoilers: Clay to never return to total normalcy; no more suicide, confirms showrunner

Katherine Langford as Hannah and Dylan Minnette as Clay in "13 Reasons Why" Netflix

When "13 Reasons Why" take fans back to Liberty High School, a lot would have already happened to the characters. Dylan Minnette, who plays Clay Jensen in the Netflix drama, says the sophomore run picks up a few months after Hannah Baker's (Katherine Langford) death. He did not give away specifics but did share how his character is holding up when fans see him back in the small screen.

The last time fans saw Clay, he just learned that Bryce (Justin Prentice) raped both Hannah and Jessica (Alisha Boe). He records the jock confessing that he did sexually violate Hannah after a brutal fight, adds it as the 14th tape, and hands the tape collection over to Mr. Porter (Derek Luke). The final scene saw Clay driving off with Tony (Christian Navarro) and Skye (Sosie Bacon), but while it looked like he is finally on the path to recovery, Minnette says Clay is still struggling to move past Hannah's death as the revelations in her tapes when the show continues.

"There's a time jump. Season 2 is a couple months after Season 1, and there's a lot that's happened to Clay in between," the actor told Yahoo! Entertainment. "You're playing catch-up when you start, and you see where Clay's at."

"Clay's trying to live his life but I think no matter what, Clay will never be able to -- I mean, I think Hannah, his life with her, and everything with the tapes, is the biggest thing that's ever happened to him, and I don't think he'll ever be able to escape it, no matter how hard he tries."

"13 Reasons Why" season 2 has just wrapped filming last month. The showrunners and the cast have been generous in giving updates so far, with the latest one coming from series producer and Paramount President Amy Powell. She confirmed to The Hollywood Reporter that the new story will still be provocative, but it will not feature another suicide.

The show, despite its insane ratings, came under fire last year for graphically showing how Hannah took her own life. As the show ended with Alex (Miles Heizer) getting shot in the head, many were quick to assume season 2 will be about his suicide. Whether or not he did attempt to do the same thing, Powell's statement seems to suggest the character will miraculously survive.

"13 Reasons Why" has no exact release date at the moment but expected to air sometime this year.
