As "Wonder Woman 2" is roughly two years away, nothing much is known about its plot at this point. However, director Patty Jenkins recently spilled a few beans on what to expect from the second installment. According to her, the theme of love in the next film will be just as strong as it was in the first one.

When asked about the sequel, Jenkins told Variety's Playback Podcast that she is bringing plenty of twists and turns including new faces and a "great love story" to the table.

"It's got great fun from the start and great big superhero presence from the start, and is funny and a great love story again and a couple new unbelievable characters who I'm so excited about, who are very different than were in the last movie," she teased.

Indeed, one of the strengths of "Wonder Woman" that set it apart from other superhero films was how Jenkins handled the themes of love. While she did not specify what type of love will be showcased in the next movie, the original one was not short of portraying both romantic and compassionate love.

It remains to be seen if and how the former type will be explored given how Steve Trevor's (Chris Pine) death emotionally affects Diana (Gal Gadot) even until the events of "Justice League." However, fans can expect "Wonder Woman 2" to dig deeper into the ideologies that drive the character including her strong compassion for mankind.

As Jenkins explained, "It's really still going to other values of hers, and a similar formula insofar as making a great, enjoyable fun movie but that ultimately in its third act turns some very big issues, and a very big experience that will aim to have slightly more weight and profundity than it has to have."

This echoes Gadot's previous statement wherein she compared the plans for the franchise's future to a bible. She told Today in an interview that each "Wonder Woman" film will present what Diana stands for and the unexplored values she upholds.

Tipped to be another period piece taking place during the Cold War this time, "Wonder Woman 2" will open in cinemas on Nov.1, 2019.
