'Stranger Things' season 3 cast, plot news: Joe Keery wants a Steve and Hopper team-up

Joe Keery as Steve Harrington in "Stranger Things" Netflix

"Stranger Things" season 2 gave fans the duo they deserve with Steve Harrington (Joe Keery) and Dustin Henderson's (Gaten Matarazzo) heartwarming and hilarious bromance. Now, Keery wants Hawkins' worst babysitter to team up with another character next season: Chief Jim Hopper (David Harbour).

During a recent interview with MTV News, the 25-year-old actor shared why he wants the town's finest cop to be Steve's next partner: "I just think David's so sick and such a great actor, and I think that'd be kind of funny."

Indeed, the actors playing off each other on camera would be comical, if their social interactions are any indication. It can be recalled that the two showed off their awesome off-screen relationship by competing for the affection of a now-internet famous Pomeranian on social media.

It is not just Keery who wants a Steve-Hopper tandem as Harbour told Mashable previously that he loves Keery's character and would very much love to share scenes with his young co-star.

"I would love to play scenes with him where Hopper is just completely ripping him apart and then he walks away and Steve just calls him a dipshit under his breath or something," Harbour said.

Off-set relationship aside, Keery thinks Steve could learn a lot from Hopper, who has been trying to get his life back together after losing his daughter to cancer.

"Steve thinks he has it all figured out, and I don't think he thinks of himself as dumb, but he's definitely not the fastest guy," he explained. "In a pinch, he can kind of work his way out of situations. With Hopper, they could lend to each other in that way, and some funny stuff could happen. It could be like a buddy-cop movie or something."

If the Duffer brothers do end up granting fans this unlikely team-up, one possible scenario is for Steve to intern for Hopper. As the second season revealed, Steve is about to finish his high school tenure uncertain about his future. With no collegiate plans, he could very well be Hopper's protege. After all, he did prove his strong moral code and responsibility when he became a self-appointed babysitter to Dustin and the gang. Fans can only hope for now.

"Stranger Things" has already been renewed for season 3, but Netflix has not announced its return date yet.
