'Reign' season 3 episode 5 preview: Nostradamus has a vision about Francis's fate

Rossif Sutherland as Nostradamus CW

This week on "Reign," Mary proved that she would do anything to save Francis' life when she put her own life on the line to save him.

Francis chose to spend his final moments with Mary in their bed, and though Mary urged him to fight harder, it appears that the royal had nothing more to give as he died in her arms.

But help came in the form of Bash and Charles, as they were able to get Delphine out of a convent, just before the nuns were about to do an exorcism on her soul as they believed that she was possessed. Charles knew that she has great powers and that she can save the king, but Bash warned him and Catherine that there is a price to pay for saving Francis—a life for a life. Mary said that if she would have to pay with her life to save him, then Delphine should go ahead and make him live. Immediately, she brought Francis back from the dead, and it wasn't Mary who died, but her mother, Marie de Guise.

It looks like Francis escaped the clutches of death this time around, but will it always be around the corner, just waiting to take him when no one expects it? Next week, in the episode titled "In a Clearing," Nostradamus comes back with a new vision about Francis' fate.

Here is the synopsis for "In a Clearing":

"Grateful for a future with a revived Francis (Tony Regbo), Mary (Adelaide Kane) considers signing away her claim to the English throne, and staying in France forever. Catherine (Megan Follows) learns that Nostradamus (guest star Rossif Sutherland) has returned—with a new vision involving Francis' fate."

In the promo for episode 5, Nostradamus says, "There are other images I saw concerning Francis's fate. Strange and dream-like…and then there is blood."

"Reign" airs Fridays at 8/7c on The CW.
