'Mortal Kombat X' updates: New Living Towers and Faction War features explained in new trailer

It goes without saying that "Mortal Kombat X" has been made bigger and more challenging than the franchise's previous installments. Missions are undeniably intense in the latest fighting game with its new feature called the Living Towers. Online interaction is also made more dynamic as players are split into victory-driven factions, all bound to engage in massive warfare. These innovations are expounded in a new video by NetherRealms.

The Living Towers is modeled from the series' Challenge Towers. What's special about these new ones is that they are more about the go-ahead. They consist of challenges labeled quick, daily and premier, all subject to a swap on the hour.

Meanwhile, the Faction War mode is a full-size component of the online version of "Mortal Kombat X." Players select a group to which they will contribute by doing well in basically everything they do within the game, may it be in the story mode or the versus mode or the towers mode. Gamers can choose from factions Black Dragon, Brother of Shadow, Lin Kuei, Special Forces and White Lotus as they vow to give out their optimal abilities and hard work to propel not only themselves but also their chosen squadron.

Shaped into a persistent meta-game, Factions is the reflection of the players' performance as they work their way to the top. Along the way, there are also custom rewards up for grabs. "Mortal Kombat X" also holds a massive tournament called Faction War every week. Pristine records and combat will definitely mean more points for the factions. These points are vital to the group's success. "Mortal Kombat X" declares victors every week and these champs will get to enjoy special rewards.

But it does not end there. Invasion is also possible in the game. Within a 24-hour period, empires like NetherRealm, Outworld or Chaos can march into the terrains of the factions and there is no way to predict when these attacks will drop as they will be done at random.

Lastly, there are hidden gems in the field that players will benefit from, one of which is tailored for Cassie Cage as this nugget will offer an alternate gear that will give her unmistakable resemblance to her mother Sonya Blade.

All these goodies will be within reach as "Mortal Kombat X" lands on PS4, Xbox One, PS3, Xbox 360, and PC platforms on April 14.
