'IT 2' cast news: Jessica Chastain as adult Beverly? Actress wants in

Following the explosive success of Andy Muschietti's "IT," which made about $677 million worldwide at the box office this fall, all eyes are now on the casting of the adult versions of Derry's Losers Club for the upcoming sequel.

One of the names that have been floating around for "IT 2" is Jessica Chastain, who many believe would make a great grown-up Beverly Marsh (Sophia Lillis). It turns out the actress is just as eager to play the character as the rest of the fans.

In a recent joint interview with Molly's Game co-star Idris Elba, Chastain told Screen Rant that she is very much ready and willing to be on the same project with director Andy and producer Barbara Muschietti who are both close to her. The actress worked with Andy on his directorial debut film, "Mama," while Barbara is one of her best friends.

"Listen, of course, I want to work... they're my friends," she said. "They're like my family. Anything that they're doing I want to be a part of, so I hope we can make it happen."

Between Chastain's willingness to board the sequel and her history with the Muschiettis, the only roadblock to her inclusion in the "IT 2" cast are the scheduling and formal offer to play the role. This should please Lillis, who played young Beverly in this year's film, as she also named the "Miss Sloane" star as her first choice for the adult version of her character.

Even Muschietti himself had the same sentiment, telling Variety a while back that Chastain would be the perfect fit for the "IT" sequel. However, nothing is official just yet. As he explained, "Yeah, she loves the movie and it feels like the planets are aligned in that sense, but we still have to make that happen," he explained. "There are a lot of ideas for the rest of the cast that I'm playing with, but it's a bit too premature to say those names right now."

"IT 2" is scheduled for release on Sept. 6, 2019.
