Xiaomi has proven itself to be a force to reckon with in the Android smartphone industry. The Chinese handset maker has been selling millions of units every year, even with the presence of the giant phone brands such as Apple's iPhone and Samsung's Galaxy series. One particular flagship killer from Xiaomi is the Redmi Note, which is expected to have a new model this year. Unfortunately, the tech firm is reportedly cancelling the Note series, with the supposed Redmi Note 5 being officially replaced by the Redmi 5 Plus.

Xiaomi has not yet issued an official statement to confirm the end of the Redmi Note 5, although one of the supermoderators of the company's MIUI forums revealed in a post that the Note series is already dropped. To note, Xiaomi has recently launched the 5.7-inch Redmi 5 and 6-inch Redmi 5 Plus smartphones, and according to supermoderator Mitch002, the public cannot expect the Redmi Note 5 to follow suit. This is because the Redmi 5 Plus has already taken its place, serving as the successor to the Redmi Note 4.

GSMArena reported that the Xiaomi Redmi 5 Plus serves as the latest widescreen handset option. The Redmi Note series is known to have a selection of massive screen phones, and those who are hoping for a Redmi Note 4 follow-up will not be disappointed with the new Redmi 5 Plus.

Still, the public should still wait for an official announcement from Xiaomi before declaring the Redmi Note series dead. Although, many people give weight on Mitch002's post as supermoderators in the MIUI forums have connections inside the company itself. It is possible that the moderator had a firsthand scoop regarding the future of the Redmi Note brand killed by the Redmi 5 Plus.

The Xiaomi Redmi 5 Plus is powered by Qualcomm's Snapdragon 625 mobile chip with 3GB and 4GB RAM options. The available storage variants are 32GB and 64GB. The smartphone sports a 12MP rear-positioned camera with dual LED flash, while the front-facing shooter has a 5MP sensor. Similar to the other premium phones released this year, the Redmi 5 Plus has 18:9 display ratio.
