"Xenoblade Chronicles 2" is an upcoming role-playing game published by Nintendo and developed by Monolith Soft. The game is set to hit the Nintendo Switch on Dec. 1.

Despite being a follow-up to the first "Xenoblade" game, the sequel will feature a brand-new world and new cast of colorful characters. This time around, players will play as Rex — a young salvager who works hard to make ends meet — as he teams up with his new friend Pyra, a girl with the power over fire, to find a utopia where people can live in harmony.

"Find a fabled paradise before the world ends," is one of the taglines on the game's website.

Rex and his friends live in an ocean of clouds, a civilization that rests on the back of Titans. However, the Titans are dying out and it spells bad news for Rex and his people. Together with Pyra, he journeys to find paradise which also serves as Pyra's home.

Players will be able to traverse through different Titans, each with its own unique culture, wildlife, and diverse setting to explore. Aside from exploring the Titans and beating up a slew of monsters, players will also be able to interact with eclectic characters including Blades who are weaponized life forms.

"Gather these allies, bond with them to increase their power, and utilize their special battle arts to devastate enemies. But to save the world of Alrest, you must first demystify its cloudy past," the game description further reads.

Those who order the "Xenoblade Chronicles 2" Special Edition will gain access to a 220-page art book, a metal game case and a CD containing the game's soundtrack.

"Xenoblade Chronicles 2" was announced at the 2017 Electronic Entertainment Expo (E3) and the trailer was uploaded to Nintendo EU's YouTube channel or Jun 13.
