'X-Files' season 11: Fans react to Scully's unwanted pregnancy

The hit sci-fi show "X-Files" season 11 just premiered on Fox, and fans have varied reaction on what they saw. Meanwhile, creator Chris Carter has something to say about the show's premiere episode.

The return of the series revealed that the teenage son of Fox Mulder (David Duchovny) and Dana Scully (Gillian Anderson) is not the result of their romance. Instead, Scully was scientifically impregnanted by the Cigarette Smoking Man (William B. Davis). The evil man used alien-assisted science to create "the first superhuman child."

While talking to Walter Skinner (Mitch Pileggi), the Cigratte Smoking Man revealed that he is the father of William. But according to Carter, the Cigarette Smoking Man is just the figurative father of William and he is not the actual father. Carter also clarified that Scully was not raped and that he only used science to do that.

However, fans were not pleased with this storyline. Many slammed the show due to its confusing plot and insensitive handling of unwanted impregnation. Although the Cigarette Smoking Man did not rape Scully, many still feel that impregnating Scully in that manner is not good.

When the official Twitter account of "The X-Files" asked fans about what they think of the first episode of the new season, many responded negatively. One Twitter user even said that impregnating someone without consent is still considered rape.

Meanwhile, Carter was interviewed by Entertainment Weekly about the show's premiere. He said that the new revelation will have a big impact on the show and is huge for both Mulder and Scully. He also said that everything "will make sense once we get to this season's finale."

Actress Gillian Anderson previously said that season 11 will be her last appearance in the series. When asked if Carter is concerned that things will end up unresolved, the show creator said that he always ends a season as if it is the last one. He added that things are often sacrificed in the finale like what happened to Jerry Hardin's character, Deep Throat.

"The X-Files" season 11 airs Wednesdays at 8-9 p.m. EST on Fox.
