In the next episode of "Van Helsing," Scarlett Harker (Missy Peregrym) and her mother, Ella (Jillian Fargey), make their journey to find the Elder (Keith Arbuthnot).

The synopsis and trailer for the upcoming installment, which is titled "Black Days," were just released recently, and they show Scarlett and Ella trekking through the mountains in search of the mysterious Elder. Apparently, he is one of the ancient vampires and even precedes the nefarious Dmitri (Paul Johansson).

Ella shows her daughter a vial of blood which happens to come from the Elder. It seems that it is a clue to determine the hideout of the vampire. They soon reach a formidable mountain, which prompts Scarlett to ask, "Is this it? Are we here?" Ella motions that they have finally reached their destination and look for an entrance into the natural structure.

The mother-daughter team go inside an opening and notice a huge door. They enter it and meet Dmitri who says, "There you are, I knew I could count on you." The vampire hunters stand ready as Ella declares, "And this is where we make our stand. Good versus evil." Out from nowhere, the Elder appears and slowly turns around to face his nemeses. It appears the two sides are going to fight, even to the death. It remains to be seen who will win this battle for humanity.

In the last episode, Ella unexpectedly revealed to Scarlett that she was her mother. The huntress was caught by surprise but was welcoming nonetheless. Scarlett left Alex Miller (Jonathan Scarfe) behind at the stronghold because going after the Elder was something she had to do with her mother. Miller was disappointed by her decision.

"Van Helsing" season 2 episode 13 will hit the airwaves on Thursday, Jan. 4, at 9 p.m. EST on Syfy.
