Columbia Pictures has been planning a live-action movie adaptation of Naughty Dog's highly popular "Uncharted" video game franchise for quite some time now, but the project seems to have been halted in the following years since it was first announced.

Now, new reports are indicating that the project's rusted tires may once again be rolling as the studio has apparently brought on board a new executive producer.

The companies involved with the project have brought on board one of the minds behind the hit television series "Stranger Things" to helm the highly awaited "Uncharted" movie. Shawn Levy, is, of course, well known for his other works which includes the "Night at the Museum" films and "Real Steel."

Levy is the third director brought on board the project following Neil Burger's exit back in 2012.

The project itself was first announced to be in development back in 2008, and has thus far moved at a snail's pace since then. The year after that, David O. Russell was brought on board as a writer and director.

In 2010, it was then announced that Mark Wahlberg would be starring in the film as the intrepid treasure hunter, Nathan Drake. He was supposedly going to be acting alongside Robert De Niro and Joe Pesci in the film.

In the following years, the project was apparently considered to be stuck "production hell" without any updates whatsoever from the studio or its producers. Sony eventually dropped the project from its release calendar, with the movie still revealed to be in production.

Given the constant change in actors, directors, writers, and producers for the video game movie, it might be possible that Levy would likely leave the project if it doesn't move forward into production.

However, some fans are just thankful that some progress is being made and that hopefully, with Levy on board, the long awaited movie might finally come to fruition.
