Sony and developer Naughty Dog treated fans with two new clips for "Uncharted 4: A Thief's End." The first one called "Man Behind the Treasure" sums up the years of emotions and the swashbuckling adventures of Nathan Drake in a poignant CGI sequence.
"Nathan Drake, that two-bit thief, risking it all for some piece of treasure. I guess that's how they know me, how they'll remember me," the buccaneer says as he reflects on his life and as the ground beneath him and his fellow fortune-hunters crumble. "But that's not who I am," Nathan declares.
As he utters all these words, it initially looka like he is stretching his hand out to grab hold of a gold coin before his beloved brother Sam, who reappears in "Uncharted 4: A Thief's End" since he was made to look dead in the original '"Uncharted" game, is shown holding on for dear life.
As it turns out, treasures and barrels of gold mean nothing compared to the life of his brother, who he has not seen for 15 long years. The heart-rending clip, which will surely pluck the heartstrings of long-time fans, is being shown in select trailers along with "Star Wars: The Force Awakens."
This, needless to say, is a surprising move for Sony and Naughty Dog. But a behind-the-scenes video might explain this. "You know, with just the inception of 'Uncharted,' we wanted to create a playable summer blockbuster," creative director Neil Druckmann said in the clip.
"We're using our medium to the fullest," game director Bruce Straley added, emphasizing that the game is not just something a gamer watches unfold but actually gets to experience and live. Indeed, Naughty Dog aims to wrap up the well-loved franchise on a high note.
"Uncharted 4: A Thief's End" will be released exclusively for the PS4 on March 18, 2016. The final adventure brings together Nathan and his brother Sam to find the long lost treasure of Captain Henry Avery. Pre-order the title here.
