Tim Tebow to speak at university event in South Carolina

Sports star Tim Tebow was recently invited to speak at an event at Bob Jones University in Greenville, South Carolina.

The baseball outfielder will be returning to South Carolina, not for sports, but as a guest of honor and speaker. According to an article by BJU, Tebow is expected to speak at the event about how his faith has affected his career and how it has helped him "use sports as a platform for Christ."

The Bruins gala, dubbed as "An Evening With Tim Tebow," will be held at the Founder's Memorial Amphitorium on March 15 at 7 p.m. EST. Tickets are available here for interested participants.

Joining Tebow as a speaker is BJU President Steve Pettit, who will be speaking about the athletics program and Christianity.

Tebow has long been known as a very religious Christian athlete who, in the past, was a target of controversy for his 2010 pro-life Super Bowl advertisement. "Throughout his life, Tebow has used the platform of sports to bring God glory - and that's what our intercollegiate athletics program is all about at BJU," said Bruins Director of Athletics Neal Ring.

Tebow is a professional baseball player and outfielder for the New York Mets organization's Class A affiliate team, the Columbia Fireflies.

Before shifting to baseball, Tebow was a professional football quarterback for various teams such as the Denver Broncos, New York Jets, and the Philadelphia Eagles. His time in football was most notable for his college career with the Florida Gators, where he led his team to a 13–1 championship, being the first sophomore to win the Heisman Trophy and named the offensive Most Valuable Player of the national championship game.

He has spent recent years pursuing a career in baseball with the Columbia Fireflies and recently, Tebow has been invited to the New York Mets' spring training in St. Lucie Florida, bringing him one step closer to being promoted to the major leagues.
