The second season of the American drama series "This Is Us" has recently given hints that a major character is about to die in the next few episodes.

The drama series focuses on the lives of the Pearson family, starting businessman Jack Pearson (Milo Ventimiglia) and his wife Rebecca (Mandy Moore). After the events in last week's episode, many fans suspect that Jack's death is near.

The anticipated death of Jack is not necessarily a surprise, as this was mentioned since the early stages of the show. Back in the first season, the Pearson kids, namely Kevin (Justin Hartley), Randall (Sterling K. Brown), and Kate (Chrissy Metz), were shown in present time to be affected by their father's death.

As the season went back in time, it further showed the background of the three kids along with their parents. The latest episode shows that the three children are now about to leave their parents for college, something that Jack and Rebecca will further talk about in the next episode.

This transition in the Pearson family's lives is one of the main factors that gave rise to speculations that Jack's end is near. Also, it was mentioned in the first season that Jack died sometime during the teenage years of the triplets.

Furthermore, the end of the latest episode shows a smoke detector not working, which could mean that Jack's inevitable death might be related to a fire accident.

Everything became even clearer when "This Is Us" executive producer Isaac Aptaker announced that "a big death is nearing."

"We're trying to brace people and help people prepare. I think I told you that this was one where the impact of it sneaks up on you," Aptaker said in an interview with Entertainment Weekly.

A 30-second teaser for the next episode was also released, with the couple talking about the future, and Jack mentioning that "it's our last time with the kids." Randall also mentioned about the difficulty of "outliving" their father.

While it remains to be seen whether Jack's statement in the teaser can be taken literally or not, fans should be prepared for the father's inevitable death.
