'The Winds of Winter' release date news: Book still on track for 2017 despite Amazon France listing debunking?

The purported March 2017 release date for "The Winds of Winter" may have been debunked, but many still believe that the sixth book in the "A Song of Ice and Fire" series will hit the shelves next year.

Amazon France broke the internet for a while when it listed the book for a release March 2017. Random House, George R.R. Martin's publisher, put an end to the field day and stated that no official launch date has been designated yet.

However, the general consensus remains that "The Winds of Winter" is coming next year. Martin has committed himself to completing the book before doing anything else.

This is why the bestselling author won't be part of the television adaptation of his graphic novel saga "Wild Cards" and why he cut down on appearances and interviews.

This initiative will certainly help "The Winds of Winter" to churn out the remaining pages of what fans could only assume is a beast of a book like all other "Game of Thrones" novels he wrote.

In addition, Martin stated in his blog update from early this year, when he revealed that he missed a lot of deadlines and that the book is not yet finished that there is already "a lot written."

By that, he meant, "hundreds of pages and dozens of chapters." He was quick to note that there is still "also a lot still left to write."

The 67-year-old novelist then predicted that he is practically "months away still... and that's if the writing goes well." He said that rewriting can also consume a lot of time.

Diehard fans, including well-known "Game of Thrones" theorist and Reddit user BryndenBFish, have been doing detailed analyses and research so as to pinpoint a possible release date for "The Winds of Winter."

Looking at the writing speed of Martin on "Dance of Dragons," the Redditor revealed to The Verge that 2017 is a "potential" release date.

This is only mere speculation, though, and as at the moment, "The Winds of Winter" has no official release date.
