As the first season of "The Punisher" was dropped on Netflix last Friday, Nov. 17, a lot of Marvel fans have binge-watched it for one day. Hence, superhero enthusiasts are now clamoring and wondering if there will be a "The Punisher" season 2.

In an interview with Entertainment Weekly, the showrunner Steve Lightfoot answered if there is a possibility of seeing Frank Castle (Jon Bernthal) back in the second season. "I genuinely don't know how the Netflix system works with making those calls," he said about the network's renewal.

However, if the streaming service does a call for "The Punisher" season 2, it is going to call Marvel and the latter will tell him. "And we'll jump back to it," he said. He even expressed his excitement in making the show's new installment.

In fact, Lightfoot revealed they have left Frank and Billy Russo (Ben Barnes) in a place where they could open new storylines for the second season. "We can do anything with them, in truth," he added.

If truth be told, at the end of the web television series, viewers had an idea who would be "The Punisher" season 2's main villain. Billy was seen on the verge of life and death as his face was badly disfigured by Frank.

While he was still on his hospital bed, he was silently promising himself of avenging Frank because of what he did to him. Thus, it is quite expected to see Barnes reprising his role as Billy in the series' possible new installment and becoming the known antagonist Jigsaw.

However, Billy's original story in the comics is different from what the Marvel Cinematic Universe revealed. He is a mafia hitman who brags about his good looks until his face gets ruined when Frank smashes it into a glass window. Although he survives, he is left with a disfigured face that helps him to become a member of the most powerful criminal underworld of New York.

Netflix has yet to announce "The Punisher" season 2's arrival and renewal.
