Despite the lack of any concrete evidence regarding its possible development, reports still continue to emerge claiming that the highly anticipated sequel to the original action adventure horror video game, "The Last of Us," is most likely in the works. The rumored sequel, now being referred to as "The Last of Us 2," has been requested by fans time and time again ever since its release in the PlayStation 4 console back in 2013.

According to the latest rumors, Sony is reportedly set to reveal new details regarding the sequel's development at the upcoming PlayStation Experience (PSX) event to be held over the weekend, Dec. 3 and 4, at the Anaheim Convention Center in California . Industry insiders are claiming that Sony may officially announce the existence of the game during the event and perhaps also share some details regarding its characters and storyline.

However, contradicting reports are saying that players may still have a while to wait until they get their hands on the new sequel as the game may not even arrive within the decade. Some reports are speculating that the game could possibly still come out sometime in 2021.

Over the past few years, there have been some indications that pointed to the possibility of the game already being developed. Voice actor Nolan North, who voices Nathan Drain in Naughty Dog's "Uncharted" video game series, previously mentioned that he knew that the studio was developing "The Last of Us 2." The studio's creative director, Neil Druckman, later clarified North's statements and mentioned that they were simply just exploring ideas for the sequel and were building prototypes of it. The studio apparently put all of those aside when they were tasked to focus on finishing "Uncharted 4: A Thief's End."

Meanwhile, Ashely Johnson, who voiced Ellie in the original game expressed her interest in reprising her role in the new game. Sony and Naughty Dog have yet to comment on the possible PSX announcement so fans just have to wait and see if "The Last of Us 2" will indeed be announced this weekend.
