New gameplay footage and characters revealed for "SoulCalibur VI," the sixth installment in the series developed by Project Soul and published by Bandai Namco.

Bandai Namco recently released new gameplay footage for upcoming "SoulCalibur VI," revealing numerous playable characters in the game. Returning favorites from the series can be seen in the video such as the cursed Nightmare, who wields the massive sword, Soul Edge, the samurai Mitsurugi, the warrior Sophitia, the martial artist Xianghua, and the monk Kilik.

The gameplay footage highlights the newcomer Groh as the first on the roster of the trailer. Groh appears to be wielding a double-sided sword resembling a spear that can be dismantled into two separate swords. Aside from his normal attacks, he can channel dark energy through his sword/s with combinations to deal massive damage to enemies.

There has been no official announcement from Bandai Namco as of yet regarding the official release of "SoulCalibur VI," though a 2018 release date was stated during its reveal at The Game Awards in late 2017.

"SoulCalibur" is a three-dimensional weapon-based fighting game franchise that features picturesque duel-style combat largely dependent on weapon physics and martial arts. It has been compared to the "Tekken" series in terms of three-dimensional movement, yet it has distinguishable features that set it apart, the most apparent being the weapon-influenced martial arts styles and critical finishers.

The series had its meager beginnings as "Soul Edge" on the PlayStation 1. The franchise has since seen continued success with four additional titles to the series released through different consoles — Sony, Microsoft, Sega and Nintendo — which is rare for such titles.

It has been almost six years since the release of the last entry in the series "SoulCalibur V," and fans eagerly await to be reunited with this old friend.
